However, even the process that is on the manual might seem intricate to some. That is where our guide steps in. It is easy to follow and simple enough that the maintenance task will feel like a piece of cake for you!
Steps to Follow to Clean Bissell Carpet Cleaner
There are three types of carpet cleaner, and we will provide the steps for all of them. So, without wasting any more of your time, let us get started!
For Upright Cleaner
Here are the steps that you would need to follow in cleaning the Bissell upright carpet cleaner:
Step 1: Flush the machine
First of all, you would have to flush the machine. Fill it up with some hot water and switch the cleaning mode to “high traffic.” Adjust the handle into the reclining position and move the device back and forth on a surface. Press the spray trigger while moving the machine. We recommend pressing it for at least 15 seconds.
After that, let go of the trigger and then press it again for another 15 seconds. Move the machine back and forth while pressing the trigger. Release the trigger and then vacuum. While vacuuming, do not spray up until the device stops sucking the water.
Step 2: Wash out the Hose
To wash out the hose, you would have to make it suck clean water. Use a bowl or use the faucet directly to clean the house. After finishing the suction, lift up the pipe by the very end and stretch it. That will clear out any of the water that might be inside the line.
Step 3: Clean the Tank
Turn the machine off using the power switch and unplug it from the power outlet. After that, wrap the power cord properly to keep it secure. Take out of the tank and rinse. Make sure that you use hot water to rinse it. Also, do ensure that the water is reaching around the bladder and underneath the tank.
Finally, rinse away any of the debris that might be inside the red filter. Then finish it off by cleaning the nozzle area.
Step 4: Clean the Nozzle
After taking care of the tank, move along to the nozzle. Here, you would have to take off the water tank and remove the nozzle as well. Rinse it using some hot water and clean the fluid connection area. Use a small paperclip to clean the nozzle area properly. Clean out the locking keys and place the nozzle back in place.
Step 5: Maintain the Brush Roll
Now, you would have to remove the debris from the brush roll. Pull any of the debris and har that you can from the roll. Turn it around and make sure that it spins freely. If it does not, you might have to apply some grease or check for things that are adding friction to the bearing.
For Portable Carpet Cleaner
The steps that you would need to follow to clean out the Bissell portable carpet cleaner are as follows:
Step 1: Rinse out the Hose
Like the upright cleaner, you would have to clean the hose first. Fill a bowl with clean water, and use the device to suck it all up. And then, you would have to let it drain. Repeat the process until the water comes out clean.
Step 2: Clean the Tank
First, turn the machine off and unplug the power cord. Lift out the tank and empty it on the dustbin. Once there is no debris or any other thing inside the tank, rinse it by running it under the sink. You might want to use hot water because that will offer an effective result.
Step 3: Rinse the Float Stack
Some of the models will have a floating stack. This stack will be inside the tank. You would have to first remove it by rotating it counter-clockwise and rinse it under the water. Put it back into place after cleaning it.
Step 4: Wash the Cleaning Tool
After dealing with the float stack, work with the cleaning tool. Release it from the spray trigger and use running water to rinse it. Clean any of the dirt and debris that are stuck on the nozzle as well.
For Canister Carpet Cleaner
If you have a Bissell canister carpet cleaner, the steps that would have to follow in cleaning it are:
Step 1: Empty and Clean the Tank
First of all, turn the machine off and empty out the tank. Then, take it around and rinse it by taking it under running water. Do make sure that you clean it thoroughly. Then, dry it properly and place it back.
Step 2: Wash the Inner Parts
Here, you would have to remove the water filtration tower first. Then, take out the hose and the mode selector. Clean all of them by holding them under running water and clear out as much of the debris and dust as possible. Do make sure that they are properly dried before reinstalling them.
Step 3: Rinse the Filter
The canister machine should have a filter. For cleaning it, you need first to check if there is any visible dirt on the surface. If you find any, take the filter out, rinse it with water. Like always, do ensure that the filter is dry and then place it back into place.
