A terrible loss

Our SOBCon friend and colleague Phil Gerbyshak alerts us that we have lost one of the members of our community, Susan Quandt:

Last Tuesday one of my dear friends and mentors was taken too quickly from this world; Susan Quandt was killed in a car accident just outside the city of Milwaukee. Susan was one of those people who could connect with you immediately, with a smile, a knowing glance, and always a hug. She lived her life abundantly, always sharing whatever she had with whomever crossed her path.

I was blessed to have Susan in my life for but a short time, as I met her at last year’s 800 CEO Read Author Pow-Wow. We knew immediately we wanted to work on some big stuff together, and she invited me to dinner, and to meet her family at her homes in Chicago and in Port Washington.

Phil shares some of the things that he learned from Susan in the brief time that he knew her in 5 Lessons [Link to Phil's article], please read the article.

Our hearts and prayers are with all of Susan’s family and friends.

Oh my gosh, this is quite a shock. Susan and I sat down and had a long conversation at SOBCon and I remember my thoughts afterwards, “Wow, this is a gal who has accomplished so much and she really embraces life!”

My heart goes out to her family.

A few lunches and a few conversations — I felt as if I had known her forever. What a terrible loss.

What a shock. I remember having lunch with Susan before SOBCon 08 started along with a whole group of us — the world is less because she is gone. She will be missed!

I first learned of her passing from one of Phil Gerbyshak’s newsletters. At first seeing her photo made me smile and laugh, remembering the great afternoon we all had in Chicago before SOBCon08 started.

Then the smile vanished when I realized what happened. I couldn’t believe it.

The photo above is when she and I were in the bookstore and I was showing her a page out of “Chicken Soup for the College Soul” that had published my Wall Street story. She was so excited as you could tell.

She will be missed. Phil said she would not have wanted us to be sad but to be celebrating her life. That’s the kind of person she was and so I will move through the day with a smile on my face, remembering hers.

    Thanks for letting me share.

Thanks for sharing Susan here with the rest of the SOBCon community. She is gone but NEVER forgotten. Genuine smiles and insights like hers can live on.
